Sailor's Spirit is a 17hh, handsome black/bay stallion, the perfect model of today's modern hunter. He offers mare owners, good conformation, substance, size and elegance.
His sire is Popeye K (2006 Circuit Champion, Winter Equestrian Festival. Reserve HOY Regular, Conformation Hunter, Grand Hunter Champion at Washington International Horse Show) and his dam, Apt to Win was a champion Canadian Sport Horse mare with multiple breeding championships and produced four foals, all HB champions.
Her influence is the definite refinement factor that Sailor brings to heavier mares, and his warmblood stature and significant bone complements those mares requiring a little more substance.
Sailor's athleticism, good movement, scope and outstanding temperament complete the package. Sailor passes on his size, good movement and outstanding temperament to his foals. To date, his foals have inherited beautiful heads, long legs and lovely toplines. He has proven to produce shorter backs from long-backed mares and pretty heads from coarser types.
Sailor had a busy breeding season in 2007 and while he maintained his schooling training over fences at home, it was difficult to get him into a full show schedule/routine. In July, we took him to his first Baby Green show where he placed 3rd in the hack and a respectable 6th and 7th over fences against a well-campaigned, competitive field. We were thrilled with his results and his manners at the show. He showed a wonderful show horse mentality.
He'll continue training over the winter and with a limited book for '08 will begin his first show season in the PreGreens.
Sailor's eldest foals are 2 years old in 2008.
